SKJÁLFANDI/ARCTIC VIBRATIONS (a sound installation)
Shipping has increased by 37% in the past 10 years in the Arctic region. Light penetrates around 20-200 meters of the surface, depending on the amount of ice and snow, and the deepest part of the Arctic Ocean is 5.449 meters so marine life heavily relies on sound to communicate and navigate the ocean. Whale Wise provided me with recordings from Skjálfandi Bay and I made a soundtrack along with speakers to create the feeling of the underwater and feel immersed in the underwater world. The gradient on the speaker showcases the depths of the ocean's darkness and shows why sound is so important.
