THE ANNA HALL PROJECT
A mission to save the Vaquitas
Our stories origin
Our documentary journey began when Alicia Chanavat, a French documentary photographer, met Dr. Anna Hall, a British marine zoologist in Vancouver Island
Anna’s dedication to wildlife conservation and her educational work with native communities inspired Alicia deeply.
This inspiration and enthusiasm for a potential film project about Anna’s work grew when Alicia, on assignment in Iceland, met filmmaker Tumi Bjartur Valdimarsson, who leads a environmentally-focused film studio in Reykjavík, Iceland.
They immediately started planning a documentary project surrounding Anna’s wildlife work. After a couple of video calls with Anna the pressing matter of protecting the marine mammal Vaquitas Porpoise came very apparent, only around 7 Vaquitas are left. Anna informed them she had been invited to be an observer on an expedition to search for the remaining Vaquitas in the Sea of Cortez alongside other marine scientists.
Soon after, Alicia connected with Diego, a Italian/Uruguayan cinematographer, and the three filmmakers began further developing and drafting a documentary centered on this critical environmental mission.
Our mission is now to create a short documentary about Dr. Anna Hall and her mission to the Sea of Cortez and set the building blocks to a feature documentary about the Vaquitas and Dr. Anna Hall’s work in Vancouver Island.
With dedication and high hopes, our team joined forces to piece together the puzzle of this environmental challenge and observe those working in the field of conservation.
